More than just hearing tests and hearing aids

There are many health conditions associated with hearing loss, either contributing to the loss or caused by the loss. At Louise Hugo Audiology practice the focus is not solely on hearing tests and hearing aids, but your complete hearing health. We work with other medical professionals to help avoid, treat or manage hearing loss and associated symptoms.  During the first interview we try to identify aspects that can cause or contribute to hearing loss, such as ototoxic medication, diabetes and smoking and medical recommendations or referrals will be made, if needed.

Untreated hearing loss increases the risk for social isolation and consequently dementia. Research shows that the use of hearing aids in combination with auditory rehabilitation exercises reduces cognitive decline.

Are you prone to falling? Falls are a major cause of accidental death in adults over the age of 65 and even a mild degree of hearing loss triples the risk of an accidental fall. Studies done by researchers at the Washington University of St. Louis and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine show that the use of hearing aids help improve balance, alertness and spatial awareness.

If you’ve never had your hearing checked or you think it might be impacting your balance or health.
